The 3×3 method for memorizing the Quran is very effective in committing the verses to memory. To use this method, start by familiarizing yourself with the lesson. Read the entire lesson 5 to 7 times to ensure clarity in Tajweed and makharij. After familiarizing, begin memorizing the first verse by reading it 3 times and then revising it 3 more times. Repeat this process for each verse: read it 3 times, memorize it 3 times, and revise it 3 times. This method encourages regular revisions to help complete the entire Quran with excellent retention and proper understanding.

How Does the 3×3 Quran Hifz Method Work?
This technique has 3 stages that every student needs to accomplish to be successful. Let’s take the example of Surah Al-Maoon, Juz 30th. It has 7 verses and we will apply the 3×3 method to hifz it by following 3 stages:
- Familiarizing
- Memorizing
- Revising
1- Familiarizing with the Text
Here is the entire Surah. You can start by reading the Surah with Tajweed if you can read it perfectly. If you still need to, you can listen to the recitation of Surah Al-Maoon until you understand every single word. Keep your eyes on the Mushaf and place your finger on the words you read or listen to.
Read or listen to the Surah 5 to 7 times to get familiar with it. Once you think you can pronounce all the words and the entire Surah fluently, you can move on to the next stage.
2- Memorizing the Text
Now you have to recite the 1st verse of the Surah 3 times with proper tajweed and understanding. Recite at a slow pace and try saving it in your memory. Then, close the Mushaf and try to read it out of your memory. If the verse is perfect move to the 2nd verse otherwise memorize again 3 times. You will memorize each verse 3 times and if there is even a slight error you need to stop and read 3 more times. Once your reading and stitching the verses together is done, move to the final stage where you will just revise the surah by applying the 3×3 method.
3- Revising the Text
For revision, you need to ensure that the sequence of the verses is correct and you are not mixing them at all. Follow this pattern to revise the Surah:
- Verse 1 x 3
- Verse 2 x 3
Verse 1 and 2 x 3
- Verse 4 x 3
- Verse 5 x 3
Verse 4 and 5 x 3
Verse 1 to 5 x 3
- Verse 6 x 3
- Verse 7 x 3
Verse 4 to 7 x 3
Verse 1 to 7 x 3
