ToggleWhat is 7×3 Quran Memorization Technique?
After meeting all the requirements of hifz, you need to know what is a 7×3 memorization technique. In this technique, the learner is supposed to read out the line 7 times by looking at the text and then revise it 3 times without looking at the text. This technique is time-taking so be patient when you read the text 7 times. Follow this method when you have around 1-2 hours to memorize the given lesson. If there are 5 verses on a page, each verse needs 7 readings followed by 3 more, totalling 50 reps.
This method is one of the effective Quran memorization techniques and can be used by beginners as well as intermediate-level holders. They can easily memorize verses through this method as it is really simple.
How Does This Technique Work?
You have to choose a verse that you are supposed to memorize. Let us say you are going to memorize the 1st verse of Surah Al-Mulk (29th Juz). Here is the detail of how you will recite it 7 times by looking at the text.
تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
- 1st reading = slow and clear in Tajweed
- 2nd reading = slow and perfect in Tajweed
- 3rd reading = medium pace with Tajweed
- 4th and 5th readings = smooth and fluent reading with Tajweed
- 6th and 7th readings = quick reading with Tajweed
Remember to read the verse slowly at first to ensure there are no errors in your reading. Also, make sure to look at the text carefully while reading. Use your index finger to guide you along the words as you read. By doing this, the verse will be saved in your mind after you’ve read it 7 times.
Now, close your eyes or the Mushaf, and read the verse once. Check if you were fluent in your review. If you are fluent, recite the verse 3 times. If not, repeat the whole process (7 readings and then 3 reviews).
If the verse is long unlike the one we just took as an example, then here is the detailed guide on how you will apply the 7×3 method to it. Let us take the example of the first verse of Surah Al-Munafiqun (Juz 28).
We will break down the verse into 4 parts and target 1 part at a time.
- 7 times إِذَا جَاءكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ then 3 times from memory
- 7 times قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ then 3 times from memory
- 7 times وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُ then 3 times from memory
- 7 times وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَكَاذِبُونَ then 3 times from memory
Now, recite the entire verse 7 times while looking at the text, and then 3 times without looking at it. If a verse seems difficult to memorize, break it down into smaller parts and memorize them separately before combining them to recite together. Once you move on to the next verse, revise this verse three times and then apply the same process to the new verse. The more verses you stack for revision, the stronger they will become using this method.
Bonus tip: If you know the translation or the summary of the verse, it will become 3x easier for you to memorize it.
Conclusion
Memorizing the Quran can be made easier with a proper method. Although it requires time and effort, the results are truly rewarding.
