A Hafiz-e-Quran has a dignified place in society and can lead the prayers as an imam.
Our responsibility is to encourage every student to memorize the Quran by heart, and for parents to enroll them in hifz program, as all of this will bring them goodness and blessings. Quran memorization not only rewards the hafiz, but his parents, the society, and his children.

Toggle10 Benefits of Becoming a Hafiz
A hafiz holds a special status in this world as he is the one who has the book of Allah saved in his heart. Allah SWT will surely bestow countless blessings on him in both worlds. Some of the benefits of memorizing Quran or becoming a hafiz are listed here.
1. They Are Preferred for the Imamate of Prayers
The one who memorizes the Quran enjoys the dignified status of being an Imam. He must be considered first to lead the prayer. Whether someone is older or qualified, if the hifz is around you, he must be leading the congregational prayer. An authentic hadith is narrated by Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari:
The Messenger of Allah SAWW said:
‘The one who is well grounded in Allah’s Book and is distinguished among them in recitation should act as; Imam for the people. and if they are equally versed in reciting it, then the one who has most knowledge regarding Sunnah; if they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest one to emigrate; If they emigrated at the same time, then the oldest one in age. No man must lead another in prayer in latter’s house or where (the latter) has authority, or sit in his place of honour in his house, except that he gives you permission or with his permission’ (Narrated by Muslim, 673)
2. A Hafiz Receives Priority for Burial in Mass Graves
In a case of mass burial where more than 2 people are supposed to be buried, the one who knows Quran the most must be entered first because of his knowledge of the Quran. Jabir ibn ‘Abd-Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:
“The Prophet would wrap two of the men slain at Uhud in a single cloth, then he would ask, ‘Which of them knew more Quran?’ If one of them were pointed out to him, he would first put that one in the lahd (a niche in the side of the grave). And he said, ‘I will be a witness over these people on the Day of Resurrection.’ He commanded that they should be buried with their blood, without being washed, and that no funeral prayer should be offered for them.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 1278)
3. They Are Given Precedence in Leadership Roles
In the times of Prophet Muhammad SAWW and the following eras or companions, the hafiz used to get appointed as a leader because of his grip on Quranic verses and knowledge.
Amir ibn Wathilah narrated that Nafi’ ibn ‘Abd al-Harith met ‘Umar in ‘Usfan, and ‘Umar had appointed him as governor of Makkah. ‘Umar said, “Who have you appointed in charge of the people of the valley?” He said, “Ibn Abza.” ‘Umar asked, “Who is Ibn Abza?” He said, “One of our freed slaves.” Umar said, “Have you appointed over them a freed slave?!” He said, “He is well-versed in the Book of Allah and has knowledge of the laws of inheritance.” ‘Umar said: “Your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Indeed, by this Book, Allah would exalt some people and degrade others.’” (Narrated by Muslim, 817)
4. Envy Only the One with Quranic Knowledge
A hafiz enjoys blessings from the divine more than anyone else. He is the only one who can be envied. It is also said that one should look up to the one who knows the Quran more and not look up to the one who enjoys high status in society. It shows that the people of Quran: hafiz are the ones who are superior and you must envy them to be closest to their abilities.
Messenger of Allah SAWW said:
“Envy is justified regarding two types of persons only: a man whom Allah has given knowledge of the Qur’an, and so he recites it during the night and the day.” (Riyad as-Salihin 997)
Nowadays life is very fast and people do not have time then weekend hifz classes are also the best option for them who want to learn Quran by heart.
5. Elevation in the Ranks in Jannah
A hafiz will surely stand out from the rest due to his vast knowledge of the Quran. He will be asked to recite the verses and step up the stairs of Jannah, the last verse he will recite will be the abode he will have, much higher than the abodes of the others who are not haafiz.
‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Amr narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“It shall be said – meaning to the one who memorized the Qur’an – ‘Recite, and rise up, recite (melodiously) as you would recite in the world. For indeed your rank shall be at the last Ayah you recited.‘” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2914)
6. Enjoy the Company of Angels
Angels glide down from the heavens and around to listen to the Quran recited by the people of Allah. They enjoy the Qira’a and roam around until the recitation is over. “The Prophet SAWW said:
“Such a person as recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 4653; Muslim, 798)
Furthermore, people who gather to learn and understand the Book of Allah are covered up with the wings of angels, and serenity and tranquillity surround them until they leave the place. So age is not a factor aged people should memorize quran in old age too to get allah almighty blessings.
7. Adorned With a Crown
Another amazing benefit of being a hafiz is that they are abundantly rewarded and presented with a crown for their utmost dedication to Quran memorization. Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet SAWW said:
“The one who memorized the Qur’an shall come on the Day of Judgement and (the reward for reciting the Qur’an) says: ‘O Lord! Decorate him.” So he is donned with a crown of nobility. Then it says: “O Lord! Give him more!’ So he is donned with a suit of nobility. Then it says: “O Lord! Be pleased with him.’ So He is pleased with him and says: “Recite and rise up, and be increased in reward with every Ayah.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2915)
In another hadith, it is mentioned that the crown will be more luminous than the sun of this Earth.
8. Get an Intercession of the Quran
Not only this, the Quran will also intercede in the grave to keep the person away from its torments and severity. Surah Al-Mulk is said to be the one that will become a shield for its hafiz in the grave who recited it before going to bed.
The Messenger of Allah SAWW said,
“Recite the two bright ones, Al-Baqarah and Al ‘Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection like two clouds or two shades or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqarah for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it.” (Narrated by Muslim, 804).
9. Parents Will Be Crowned on the Day of Judgement
The parents of a hafiz will be presented with a crown and a garment. This will happen because they took care of and taught their child. Even if they were ignorant, Allah will honour them because of their child. However, the one who prevented his child from learning the Quran will be one of those who are deprived. The Messenger of Allah SAWW said:
“The Quran will come on the Day of Resurrection like a pale man saying to its companion, “Do you recognize me? I am the one who made you stay up at night and made you thirsty during the day…” Then he will be given dominion in his right hand and eternity in his left, and a crown of dignity will be placed upon his head, and his parents will be clothed with garments which far surpass everything to be found in this world. They will say, “O Lord, how did we earn this.” It will be said to them, “Because you taught your child the Quran.”
10. Gain Serenity in Prayers
The best way to remember Allah is during the five daily prayers. For those who haven’t memorized the Quran, it may be challenging to stand for an elongated period in prayer due to the limited knowledge of the Quran. Therefore, another benefit of being a hafiz is having plenty of verses in your heart to revise and recite in prayers, bringing a sense of tranquillity.
Allah said in Surat Ar-Raad, verse 26,
‘’ Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction?”
Conclusion
Memorizing the Quran enhances understanding, recitation skills, and intellectual development, instilling a sense of accomplishment.
