Which Mushaf Is Best For Memorization?
There are different types of Mushaf available worldwide, each with differences in fonts and symbols. These variations are specific to the region and its people. For instance, individuals from the Indo-Pak region typically use a 16-lined Mushaf by Taj printers, which comes in Nasta’liq or Non-Uthmani font. Another popular option is the Egyptian 15-lined Mushaf, widely used by Quran memorization students.
Whether you opt for a 16-lined, 15-lined, or 12-lined Mushaf, it’s recommended to choose one without Tajweed colour codes. If you are learning Tajweed, that’s fine, but for hifz, it’s better to use a Mushaf printed in black ink or with yellow-brown pages. Colours are believed to have a positive impact on memory, so if you find red-inked words on a yellow background, that could be a good choice. While many people suggest using a digital app for memorization, we do not recommend it, as using a paper Mushaf for hifz is easier and has a longer-lasting effect on memory.
