How To Memorize Juz Amma? Complete Guide

Memorize Juz amma

The last chapter of the Quran is called Juz Amma, and it consists of 37 Surahs spread over 20 pages. These surahs are comparatively easier and shorter than the others in the Quran. This section is named Juz Amma because the first Surah begins with the word Amma. Professional huffaz recommends starting your memorization journey with this last Juz to establish a strong foundation for memorizing the rest of the Quran.

3 Easy Ways to Memorize Juz Amma

There are different hifz methods and useful tips for memorizing this section, such as focusing on surahs, pages, or verses. Eventually, you will be able to memorize all 37 Surahs perfectly.

1. Learn Surah by Surah

One of the best ways to memorize Juz Amma is to learn Surah by Surah. As we have mentioned earlier, there are 37 surahs in Juz Amma. So, you can plan to learn Surah by Surah by dividing small Surahs into small parts. Either start from the bottom (recommended) or the beginning, and target one Surah over a week to learn it excellently.

2. Learn Page by Page

There are 20 pages so you can memorize Jum Amma page by page. Either divide the page into 3 parts or 2 equal halves and then target them with excellent revision. Do not advance until your page is revised at least 10 times per day. This technique can help you to memorize 1 page of quran fast without forgetting.

3. Learn Verse by Verse

The 3rd easiest way to memorize Juz Amma is to learn verse by verse. You will have to start from the 1st verse of Surah An-Naas and keep moving slowly and gradually until the whole Juz is done. Take a break when the Surah ends, then begin again with the next Surah and memorize it verse by verse.

How to Memorize Juz 30th?

Here are some easy ways and tips that will help beginners to memorize juz 30th.

1. Set Small Goals for Each Surah

Now, let’s step into the hifz journey. The 1st surah to begin will be the last Suran of this Juz (Surah An-Naas). All you need to do is set small goals for this Surah over a week or even 2. There are 5 verses in this Surah so divide the verses over 10 days (if you are going to memorize something 1st time). If you are already familiar with some of the Surahs then divide each verse over 1 day and set your goal. By the end of the day, your verse must be perfectly stored in your memory.

The reason we recommend setting short targets is to help you set a routine of hifz in which you can easily breathe and enjoy. If you kickstart in the beginning like a pro by memorizing 1 Surah per day, believe me, you will get tired soon. So, don’t be too harsh on yourself.

Also, as you advance, you will be exposed to some longer Surahs too. So, set goals for them too. For example, while memorizing Surah Al-Fajr, or Surah An-Naziyaat, you need to make multiple small goals to complete the Surahs.

2. Break Each Surah into Shorter Parts

There are 3 types of Surahs in Juz Amma:

  • Short Surahs
  • Medium Surahs
  • Long Surahs

Now, your next task is to break down the specific Surah into small parts. Let us suppose you are memorizing Surah Ash-Shams. It has 15 verses. So here goes the division into shorter parts.

  • 1st – Divide the Surah into 3 equal parts (5 verses in each part)
  • 2nd – Divide each part into 2 short halves (3:2)
  • 3rd – Divide every single verse into small pieces to focus on the pronunciation of each letter ( WalQamari- iza – Talaaha)

The more short parts you make, the better will be your memorization of each part. You will be able to focus on Tajweed and the meaning of that part.

3. Make a Schedule for Yourself

Although it is the easiest Juz, you still need to have a schedule of the whole Juz in front of you to keep checking if you are going at the desired pace or not. A schedule is like a syllabus and timetable for your hifz class. First, decide how many months you think you can take to remember these Juz amma surahs. Then, consider the daily time duration you can dedicate to your hifz. Plan out every detail beforehand. For example, if you think 3 months are enough for this Juz and you prefer 5 days a week with 1 hour of class each day, you can calculate your schedule for the next 3 months.

Days: 60

Time: 60 hours

Target: 37 Surahs

Breakdown: almost 2 days for 1 Surah

For a detailed schedule of the 30th Juz, read out the Juz Amma memorization schedule and follow it to reach the goal successfully.

4. Revise 5 Times daily

Hold on, 5 times daily doesn’t mean you are going to spend hours and hours every day. Here, 5 times are the times of your prayers. Let’s suppose the 1st day you memorized Surah An-Naas (already familiar). Revise these 5 verses of the Surah in Zohr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. The next day revise the Surah in Fajr and then start the next lesson to revise again in Zohr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha and Fajr.

This sequence is for those who will attend the class in the morning. If you are memorizing in the evening then revise from the upcoming prayer till you are done with 5 prayers ( Isha, Fajr, Zohr, Asr, Maghrib). 5 times daily revision can make you memorize quran fast.

5. Perfect your Tajweed by Listening to the Audio Recitation

If you are learning Juz Amma on your own at home and you have a good grip on Tajwwed and the meaning of the verse, then, play an audion of the verse you intend to learn to perfect the makharij furthermore. For beginners, it is recommended to take a formal course or at least take a tajweed course to learn all the rules.

Let us take the instance of Surah Al-Lahab. In this Surah you have the rule of Qalqala repeated several times. So, listen to the audio of any Egyptian Qari and see how he pronounces Qalqalah in the middle and the end of all 5 verses. Practice the tajweed rules by imitating the style of the Qari and then revise the Surah in 5 prayers will full tajweed to get a phenomenal result.

6. Understand the Summary of Each Surah

Without understanding the meaning, you may memorize the verses, but you won’t be able to connect with them or enjoy their significance. To truly appreciate the recitation, it is important to at least understand the summary of each Surah, if not the word-to-word translation. This understanding will not only help you to keep the verses separate and in the correct order but will also help you create a memory palace in your mind for each Surah through a story-like representation.

Take the example of Surah Ad-Duha; the Surah of solace and the revival of happiness. If you are unaware of why this Surah was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAWW), the challenges he faced at that time, the promises made in the Surah, and how it comforts a distressed heart, you will not fully appreciate the recitation and memorization of the Surah. So, spare some time and just go through a quick summary of the Surah to enjoy its worth, while memorizing.

7. Take Help From an Experienced Tutor

If you are a beginner and do not really know the reading of the Quran but want to memorize it, we recommend getting help from a professional teacher who will make a plan for Juz Amma for you and divide it into your daily class. Even if you know Tajweed and can not be consistent in memorizing every day, this tip will work for you too. A teacher or a formal online hifz program will make you regular and consistent in your hard work.

All the time you will spend memorizing Juz Amma will set a solid base for your Quran memorization (if you continue). You can hire a hifz teacher from the renowned Hifz platforms working online, such as Hifz Academy.
